roomap (Roomap), a real estate service specializing in the Shonan and Kamakura areas operated by Garage Standard Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo; Representative Director: Toshizumi Hotta), conducted a survey on "lifestyle and work style" targeting 358 residents, primarily in their 20s and 30s, living in the Shonan region.
Shonan, which combines excellent access to central Tokyo with abundant natural surroundings, has long been regarded as a "dream destination." This survey reveals the real picture of how young people in this region live, work, and enjoy their daily lives.
【Survey Overview】
・Survey Theme: Life Reality Survey of Shonan Residents in Their 20s and 30s
・Survey Period: August 14, 2025 – August 21, 2025
・Survey Target: Residents in their 20s and 30s living in Shonan and Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture
・Valid Responses: 358 people
・Survey Method: Online survey
・Survey Organization: Garage Standard Co., Ltd. (roomap operator)
【Q1】Work Style Among Those in Their 20s and 30s: "Company Employees" Make Up the Majority
"Company employee" was the most common response at 55.9% of respondents. This was followed by "part-time/temporary workers" (17.3%) and "students" (7.5%). Given that the respondents were primarily in their 20s and 30s, Shonan life emerged as a place where people "enjoy living while working."
【Q2】Work Style Centers on "Daily Office Commuting," While Flexible Work Arrangements Are Also Expanding
"Daily office commuting" was the most common at 58.8%, while "full remote work" (10.7%) and "hybrid arrangements" (18.7%) also accounted for approximately 30%. The reality emerged that those in their 20s and 30s living in Shonan are adopting diverse work styles while taking advantage of easy access to the city center.
【Q3】What Changed After Moving to Shonan: "Time Management," "Diet," and "Social Interaction"
38.8% of respondents reported waking up between 6 and 7 a.m., the most common result. This was followed by "between 7 and 8 a.m." (22.3%) and "between 5 and 6 a.m." (18.4%), with over 80% of all respondents waking by 7 a.m.
This can be considered a characteristic of young people in their 20s and 30s who choose a lifestyle that takes advantage of the natural environment. In areas close to the ocean and nature, "morning activities" such as morning walks and surfing are more likely to become part of daily life, possibly leading to a shift toward early-morning wake-up patterns.
Rather than the "late wake-ups" often seen in urban areas, it can be said that "natural early-rising style" has become the mainstream in Shonan living—a major distinguishing feature.
Additionally, many people reported positive changes in their lifestyles, such as "the way I spend time outside of work has changed" (14.0%), "the frequency of home cooking has increased" (14.2%), and "social interaction with others has increased" (12.0%). One in three people responded that their living style has become "richer" since moving to Shonan.
【Q4】Shonan-Style Mornings: Starting the Day with "Walks and Cafes"
Shonan-style morning habits have become established, including "walks or jogging along the coast" (15.6%), "breakfast at a cafe or bakery" (14.8%), and "coffee on the balcony" (12.0%). Starting the day while feeling the presence of the ocean and nature is emblematic of a new lifestyle for those in their 20s and 30s.
【Q5】Half of Respondents Say "Living in Harmony with Nature" Represents Shonan's Character
"Being able to live in harmony with nature" was the top response at 50.6%. This was followed by "being able to change how you spend your time according to seasons and weather" (22.6%) and "achieving work-life balance" (18.7%). It became clear that for young people, Shonan is a "place that realizes a lifestyle based on nature."
【Q6】One in Three Feel Their "Lifestyle and Work Style Have Changed"
Combining "it has changed greatly" (17.6%) and "it has changed somewhat" (20.7%) equals 38.3%. Many respondents also noted that they can now "spend time in a more authentic way," indicating that living in Shonan has a positive impact on work and life.
【Observations】
This survey reveals that those in their 20s and 30s living in Shonan value "incorporating ease into daily life while feeling nature nearby" more than dramatic changes.
In particular, as reflected in "how mornings are spent" and "work style," by taking walks along the beach before work or enjoying breakfast at local cafes, they incorporate a "comfortable rhythm" that is difficult to achieve in urban areas into their daily lives.
Shonan has become established as a place where young people can "work authentically while living naturally"—not merely a choice of where to live, but a choice of lifestyle itself.
